René Eespere: Composer Recital

Tallinn Philharmonic Society presents a programme “Concertatus Celatus” of new works by René Eespere on the 26th of November at Tallinn Methodist Church. Eespere’s works “Concertatus Celatus” for cello and chamber orchestra, Clarinet Concerto, “Cantus” for chamber orchestra and vocal cycle “Seven epigrams” composed in last few years will be performed at the concert.

Tallinn Chamber Orchestra will perform the music of Eespere under the conducting of Risto Joost, soloists are Marius Järvi (cello), Toomas Vavilov (clarinet), Elena Voznesenskaya (soprano, France), Francois Soulet (tenor, France) and Sauli Tiilikainen (bass, Finland).

As a composer, Eespere introduced himself on the late 1970ies as the author of short ballets “Man and a Night”, “Kodalased”, “The Furies”. Also his vocal-symphonic and choir music on the philosophical themes have been highly praised. Eespere has composed numerous subtle chamber pieces and music for children. His use of diatonic melody lines and ostinato techniques underscore the archaic ritualism and a meditative standpoint in the music.

René Eespere graduated from Tallinn Conservatoire in 1977 and trained his skills at Moscow Conservatoire with Aram Khachaturian the following years. Since 1979, Eespere is the teacher of music theory at Estonian Academy of Music.
