Kreete Jacob

Kreete Jacob, one of the most prominent horn players of the younger generation, began her horn studies at the age of 11 at the Tartu Municipal Music School under the supervision of Priit Sonn. She received her upper secondary education at the Hugo Treffner Gymnasium in Tartu, graduating in 2008. She then studied horn at the Heino Eller Tartu Music College with Kaido Otsing and at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with Prof. Kalervo Kulmala. She continued her studies in Germany, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in 2016 at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts with Prof. Esa Tapani and a master’s degree in 2021 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich (Hochschule für Musik und Theater München) under the supervision of Prof. Johannes Hinterholzer. Jacob has participated in masterclasses with Michael Höltzel, Samuel Seidenberg, and Mahir Kalmik.

In 2007–2011, Kreete Jacob worked in the brass section of the Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra. She has been a member of the Baltic Youth Philharmonic (2011–2014) and an intern at the Stuttgart Philharmonic (2015–2016). Over the years, she has played with several ensembles and orchestras both in Estonia and abroad, including the Estonian Sinfonietta, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, the Pärnu City Orchestra, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, and Camerata Salzburg. She was also a soloist in Robert Schumann’s Konzertstück for four horns and orchestra with the Pärnu City Orchestra, conducted by Kaspar Mänd (2020), and in York Bowen’s Horn Concerto with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra under the guidance of Olari Elts (2021). As an active soloist and chamber musician, she has given numerous concerts with stage partners such as Priit Volmer, Jaan Ots, Joonatan Jürgenson, Jaanika Rand-Sirp, etc.

In 2018 she won the grand prix in the brass category at the Estonian National Performers’ Competition for Wind Instruments.

From 2021, she is the concertmaster of the horn group of the Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra. From 2022 she is a horn teacher at the Heino Eller Tartu Music College and a lecturer at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. She also teaches young horn players at the Ülenurme Music School.
