Regina Udod

Double bass player Regina Udod started her double bass studies at the age of 12 with Marek Mere at the Viimsi Music School and continued at the Tallinn Georg Ots Music School with Meeme Saareväli. She received her Master’s degree cum laude from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under the supervision of Kaupo Olt in 2018. She has improved her skills with Francisco Obieta in the Vorarlberger Landeskonservatorium, Austria, and with Prof. Alberto Bocini in the Haute École de Musique de Genève, Switzerland. She has participated in master courses of Franco Petracchi, Alberto Bocini, Hans Sturm, Petru Iuga, Timothy Cobb, Thomas Martin, and Iain Crawford.
Regina Udod is awarded twice the 2nd prize at the Estonian String Players Competition (2020 and 2015), receiving also Thomastik-Infeld special prize (2015) and a special prize for interpretation of Eduard Tubin’s Double Bass Concerto (2020) and diploma and special prize at the 5th Estonian Competition-Festival for Young String Players (2010). In 2017, a double bass quartet with members of Regina Udod, Alessandra Avico (Italy), Carolina Lima de Almeida (Brasil), and Marta Gil Sanchez (Spain) was awarded the Jean-François Chaponnière chamber music prize of the Haute École de Musique de Genève at the most brilliant and best chamber music group of the year.
Regina Udod has appeared as a soloist with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater Symphony Orchestra, the Narva City Orchestra, and the Haapsalu Festival Orchestra.
Since 2013, Regina Udod is the associate principal double bass of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. She has been a member of several orchestras and ensembles, e.g. the Estonian National Opera Symphony Orchestra (2009–2010, 2011–2014), the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (Switzerland), the Kremerata Baltica, the United Strings of Europe, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra (Finland), the Estonian Festival Orchestra, the Nordic Symphony Orchestra, the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), and the YXUS Ensemble.
