Voldemar Leemets

Voldemar Leemets was a violinist, music critic and composer. He studied at Rakvere City School and Rakvere Teacher's Seminary, and took violin lessons privately with Johannes Paulsen. In 1931, he graduated from the Tallinn Conservatory majoring in composition as a student of Artur Kapp.

Leemets worked in the orchestra of the Theatre Estonia as a concertmaster of the II violin group (1913–1932). He published music criticism in "Uudisleht", contributed to "Muusikaleht" and the magazines "Helikund", "Teater" and "Kaja", where he mainly discussed the problems of music aesthetics. Leemets was the publisher of the collection Estonian Music Almanac II ("Eesti Muusika Almanak I", 1934).

Voldemar Leemets has written music for songplays and the operetta Dancer in Mask (1938, libretto by Aino Undla-Põldmäe), symphonic and chamber music and choral songs. "Dance song" was on the program of the 7th Virumaa and 7th Viljandimaa song festival held in 1936.
