Vox Clamantis performed four world premieres in Wales

Last week, vocal ensemble Vox Clamantis under the direction of Jaan-Eik Tulve gave two concerts in Wales at the Vale of Glamorgan Festival. At the concert on May 16 in Penarth St. Augustine’s church, ensemble performed four new pieces: Galina Grigorjeva’s Bless the Lord, O my soul (Psalm 103), Helena Tulve’s Stella matutina, Tõnis Kaumann’s Ave Maria and John Metcalf’s Laudate Dominum (Psalm 150). World premieres of Grigorjeva’s and Metcalf’s works were part of American sarced music organisation Soli Deo Gloria’s Psalms Project – a three-year pilot project to create a collection of fifteen contemporary choral works by the world’s foremost composers. In addition to premieres, the program included also Arvo Pärt’s Alleluia-Tropus, Virgencita, And One of the Pharisees... and Gregorian chant.

On May 17, ensemble gave the concert in Ewenny Priory performing Arvo Pärt’s Kanon Pokajanen and Cyrillus Kreek’s Evening Prayer.

Vale of Glamorgan Festival in Wales has introduced Estonian music before: festival in 2010 was dedicated to music of Arvo Pärt, it has presented premieres of Erkki-Sven Tüür (1996) and Helena Tulve (2010), and Vox Clamantis’s return visit of this year followed their performance at the festival in 2008.
