Villu Vihermäe

Villu Vihermäe began cello studies at Tallinn Music High School with Laine Leichter in 1989. In 2003, he continued at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in docent Henry-David Varema’s cello class. In 2008–2011, he improved his skills in University of Music and Theatre „Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy“ Leipzig, Germany under the supervision of Prof. Peter Hörr. Villu Vihemäe has been awarded I prize (2011 and 2006) and III prize (2004) at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre Chamber Music Competition, III prize at ESTA National Competition-Festival for Violinists and Cellists in Tallinn (2003) and III prize at August Dombrovska International Competition in Riga (1998).

Since 2004, Villu Vihermäe also plays baroque cello and has performed in several early music ensembles, including Corelli Consort and Corelli Baroque Orchestra. Since 2011, he also plays in St. Mauritius Baroque Ensemble. He has worked in Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and Estonian National Opera Symphony Orchestra and since 2013, Villu Vihermäe belongs to Tallinn Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has appeared in Germany, Austria, UK, Finland and The Baltic States. He is the member of String Trio Fresh, founded in 2013.
