Vale of Glamorgan Festival celebrates Arvo Pärt’s 80th birthday

Vale of Glamorgan Festival in Wales celebrates Arvo Pärt’s 80th birthday, among performers there are also Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and Estonian Phiharmonic Chamber Choir. Festival takes place from May 12 to 23 and presents also music by other Estonian composers: Helena Tulve, Toivo Tulev, Märt-Matis Lill, Veljo Tormis, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Jaan Rääts and Tõnu Kõrvits.

Concert of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir under the direction of Kaspars Putninš takes place in Penarth All Saints Church on May 21. Program consists of Arvo Pärt’s Solfeggio, Magnificat, Ode VII Memento, Dopo la Vittoria, Nunc Dimittis, Märt-Matis Lill’s The Dream Stream, Veljo Tormis’s Tower Bell in my Village and songs of festival’s other main composer Dobrinka Tabakova.

Tallinn Chamber Orchestra will perform on May 22 in Cardiff BBC Hoddinott Hall with the program of Jaan Rääts’s Concerto for Chamber Orchestra, Op. 16, Arvo Pärt’s Trisagion, Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Action.Passion.Illusion and Tõnu Kõrvits’s Elegies of Thule.

Both Estonian groups appear together on stage of Cardiff St. David’s Hall on May 23, performing music of Dobrinka Tabakova and Arvo Pärt’s Adam’s Lament and Stabat Mater. Conductor is Kristjan Järvi.
