Robert Traksmann

Robert Traksmann started playing the violin at the age of 4 with Tiiu Peäske and continued in Peäske’s violin class at the Tallinn Music High School, graduating in 2014. In 2018, he received his Bachelor’s degree from the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin with Prof. Kolja Blacher, where he is currently continuing his Master’s program. He has participated in the mastercourses of Ulrike Danhofer, Florian Donderer, Arvo Leibur, Jüri Gerretz, Robert Rozek and Ivry Gitlis.

Robert Traksmann has successfully participated in many competitions. The best achievements have been 2nd prize at the 3rd ESTA (European String Teachers Association) Estonian competition in Tallinn (2007) and 1st prize and special prizes from the International Eduard Tubin Society (best interpretation of Tubin’s sonata) and the Pärnu City Orchestra at the 2nd Pärnu Violin Competition (2010).

Robert Traksmann has performed with several prestigious orchestras and ensembles, including the Gürzenich Orchester Cologne, the Orchester der Karajan Akademie Berliner Philharmoniker, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, the Estonian Festival Orchestra, the vocal ensemble Vox Clamantis, the new music ensemble YXUS. In addition, he has appeared as a concertmaster in several youth orchestras, as a guest concertmaster in the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and at the Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra. Robert Traksmann has performed as a soloist with the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, the German Youth Symphony Orchestra (Tübingen), the Pärnu City Orchestra, the Virumaa Chamber Orchestra, the Haapsalu Festival Orchestra and the Tallinn Music High School String Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra.

As an active chamber musician, he has played with several renowned musicians. He has performed in the production Adam’s Passion by Arvo Pärt/Robert Wilson, appeared at the Baltic Sea Festival in Berwaldhallen in Stockholm, the Mozartiana Festival in Gdansk, 27th Estonian Song Celebration, etc. He has the longest collaboration with the Trio 95’ with pianist Rasmus Andreas Raide and cellist Marcel Johannes Kits. The trio has participated in master courses of Francis Gouton and Aleksander Bondurianski, performed at Estonia’s most important concert venues and won prizes at the festivals, including 1st prize at the Illmar Hannikainen International Piano Chamber Music Competition in Finland (2020) and the 1st prize at the International Pavasario Sonata competition in Lithuania (2012). In addition, Robert Traksmann is a member of the string quartet M4GNET, founded in 2020.

Robert Traksmann performs on a violin made by Giuseppe Gagliano and his brother Antonio (1775–1780) and on a bow made by Joseph Artur Vigneron (1890), which is kindly on loan from the Estonian Foundation of Musical Instruments.
