Tomorrow, on September 25, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and conductor Tõnu Kaljuste, will give a performance in newly renovated Tonhalle Concert Hall in Zurich with works by Arvo Pärt and Maurice Duruflé.

"It is gratifying that Estonians have such an important role to play in the opening celebrations of the dignified European Concert Hall," says Esper Linnamägi, the Managing Director of the choir. "Paavo Järvi conducted the inaugural concerts in Tonhalle a few days ago. Now the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir has been invited to perform as part of the organ evening, which is why the organ also plays an important role in our program,”adds Linnamägi.

The concert will feature a cappella works by Arvo Pärt: "Magnificat", "Deer's cry", "Nunc dimittis" and "Dopo la vittoria". Organist Kadri Toomoja will perform Pärt’s organ pieces "An den Wassern zu Babel" and "Veni creator". The choir and organ jointly perform the masterpiece "Requiem" by 20th century French composer and organist Maurice Duruflé.

After four years of renovations of the Great Tonhalle, the concert hall was given its original appearance. The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir will perform for the first time in Tonhalle's highly acclaimed acoustic hall.

Returning to Estonia, the 40th birthday season of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir will continue with performances of Beethoven's "Missa solemnis" on October 2 in Tartu and on October 3 in Tallinn with Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and Tõnu Kaljuste.
