Tauno Aints’s opera „Rehepapp“ to be staged in Helsinki

On November 13, Tauno Aints’s opera „Rehepapp“  will be staged in Finnish National Opera as a visiting production of Vanemuine Theatre. A day earlier, also Henry Purcell’s „The Fairy-Queen“ will be performed by Vanemuine company.

Aints’s opera is based on novel with the same name by Andrus Kivirähk. The story revolves around Rehepapp Sander, who watches his people's greed and dreams and tries to push them into more humane dimensions. Kivirähk has created a witty generalisation, that doesn't lack humour or social criticism.

The stage director is Marko Matvere who appears also in the lead role, designer is Iir Hermeliin and choreographer Marika Aidla. The opera  features Lauri Saatpalu, Merle Jalakas, Kädy Plaas, Kristina Vähi, Reigo Tamm, Karmen Puis, Märt Jakobson, Rasmus Kull, Pirjo Püvi, Valentina Kremen, Jaan Willem Sibul, Simo Breede, Kristiina Raahel Uiga or Liisa Tämm, Janek Savolainen and others. Vanemuine opera choir and orchestra will be conducted by maestro Paul Mägi.
