Siim Selis

Pianist and conductor Siim Selis studied piano at Tallinn Music High School with Merike Torn and Valdur Roots. In 1996, he graduated from Estonian Academy of Music as the piano student of Prof Valdur Roots and received his Master’s degree as an accompanist under the supervision of Prof Vilma Mallene and Prof Helin Kapten from Estonian Academy of Music in 1999. He has studied choral conducting with Jüri Rent and orchestral conducting with Ilmar Tõnisson.

Since 1992, Siim Selis works as a conductor and accompanist in Academic Male Choir of Tallinn University of Technology and since 1994 as a concertmaster at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. He also works closely with Estonian National Male Choir and Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. He plays piano in Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir’s CD „Vivit!“ (Ondine 2013), awarded as the Best Classical Album of the Year 2014.

As an excellent accompanist and valued ensemble partner, Selis has had numerous musical collaborations with Estonian singers René Soom, Annaliisa Pillak, Maris Liloson, Ain Anger, Olga Zaitseva, Uku Joller, Rauno Elp, Kristina Vähi, Villu Valdmaa, Mati Kõrts, Urmas Põldma and Kädy Plaas and several choirs. He has appeared as a pianist and conductor in Finland, Canada, New Zeland, Germany and elsewhere and perfomed as a member of several orhestras (Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Pärnu City Orchestra, Nordic Symphony Orchestra, Estonian National Opera Symphony Orchestra, Moscow orchestra Novaya Opera) and given solo recitals.
