Signe Sõmer

Signe Sõmer started her clarinet studies as a student of Vahur Vurm in Tallinn Music High School. She has studied in Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with Toomas Vavilov and received Bachelors's Degree from Sibelius Academy (2013), where she studied with Harri Mäki. Most recently she graduated with a Master of Music at the Colburn Conservatory of music, where she studied with Yehuda Gilad (2016).

A prizewinner at the 2012 Estonian National Competition for Wind Instruments, she has also given a live performance through European Broadcasting Union as a semifinalist for the “New Talent” competition in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Signe Sõmer is the principal clarinet of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra since 2017. In addition to ENSO, she has performed with Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Finnish National Opera, Norwegian National Opera, Estonian Festival Orchestra and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra. As part of the 2016 season, she was an acting principal clarinet of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in New Zealand. She has performed under the baton of many renowned conductors, including Neeme Järvi, Paavo Järvi, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Sir Neville Marriner, Vladimir Ashkenazy, and Stéphane Denève.

As an avid chamber musician, she is a member of Reval Wind Quintet and has collaborated with artists such as Fabio Bidini, Ariana Ghez, Robert deMaine, Roberto Díaz, and Andrew Bain.
