Season finale concert "Haydn + Piazzolla" features Valle-Rasmus Roots for the first time with Estonian Sinfonietta

In the upcoming seasons, in the Estonian Sinfonietta's new series HAYDN+, in addition to the works of the Great Master, the audience can enjoy pieces that are undeservedly performed too rarely in concert halls.

Why HAYDN +? In addition to the exceptional music of Joseph Haydn, his 300th birthday will be celebrated in less than 8 years, on March 31, 2032! In the composer’s rich musical legacy, alongside well-known works, there are still pieces waiting to be discovered, and in some cases parts or even the whole work originally came from another opus. And so it is at this concert.

Joseph Haydn's most iconic works, the Trumpet Concerto, along with the Overture in D, which is also the finale of Symphony No. 53 will be performed on Sunday, 25 May at 5 p.m. in the White Hall of the Tallinn Philharmonic's House of the Blackheads.

The main piece of this concert is Symphony No. 63 subtitled as La Roxelane. The 2nd movement was originally part of Haydn's incidental music for Charles Simon Favart's stage work. Roxelana was the chief consort, the first Haseki Sultan of the Ottoman Empire and the legal wife of the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. She became one of the most powerful and influential women in Ottoman history, and the first of a series of prominent Ottoman women who reigned during the period known as the Sultanate of Women. This was possible only due to the Sultan's fierce affection for Roxelana.

About the Tango King Ástor Piazzolla's Le Grand Tango can be read in magazine Strings: ’It is a musical expression of Argentine culture and passions. It has everything. It makes us dance, sing, cry, argue and even laugh’.

On stage are Francisco Gaspar Tomas Lopez (Spain), winner of the Grand Prix of the International Trumpet Talents 2024 Competition, cellist and conductor Valle-Rasmus Roots, and the Estonian Sinfonietta.

Welcome to an evening with passionate music!
