Juan José Restrepo Duarte

b. January 11, 1989 Bucaramanga, Colombia

Juan José Restrepo Duarte is a violinist, composer and conductor, founder of the South Estonian Chamber Orchestra. Having completed his bachelor's studies in music at the Central University of Colombia in 2013, he began his master’s studies at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in the violin interpretation under the supervision of Professor Mari Tampere-Bezrodny, which he graduated in 2015. During his master's studies, he also studied composition with Toivo Tulev and Tapio Tuomela. In 2020, he obtained master’s degree in orchestral conducting in the class of Professor Toomas Kapten. Since 2015, he has been a violinist in the Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra. In 2021, he founded the South Estonian Chamber Orchestra.

As a conductor, he has conducted professional orchestras such as the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre Sinfonietta, the Olomouc Philharmonic Orchestra (Czech Republic), as well as youth orchestras such as the Nõmme Music School Symphony Orchestra and the Harjumaa String Orchestra.
Since 2017, he has been working as a violin teacher at Võru Music School.

Restrepo has composed orchestral works and works for violin and piano. His music has been performed by South Estonian Chamber Orchestra, Tartu University Symphony Orchestra, etc.
