Raimo Kangro’s musical „Juku“ to be premiered at Narva Opera Festival



On September 1, Raimo Kangro’s (1949–2001) musical „Juku“ written in 1998, will be premiered in the city of Narva as a part of the Narva Opera Festival „ContempArt“ 2019 in specially designed opera tent at the Krenholm Manufacturing Company. The funny family musical, with a libretto by Leelo Tungal, is based on the popular Estonian joke character Juku and focuses on the relationship between fathers and sons. The stage director is Andrus Vaarik, conductor Jüri-Ruut Kangur and mezzo-soprano Juuli Lill is in the title role. The world premiere of „Juku“ celebrates 70 years of the birth of Raimo Kangro.

Narva Opera Festival taking place from August 28 to September 12 also features human-sized puppets in Peter Kohlmetz Møller’s opera „Dust”, contemporary versions of Georg Friedrich Händel’s “Orlando” and Vincenzo Bellini’s“Norma with soprano Katrin Targo in the title role and bass Kristjan Mõisnik as Oroveso, among others.
