Premiere of Pärt Uusberg’s new choral work

At the end of September and the beginning of October, Estonian composer Pärt Uusberg's new work Psalms of David will receive its first performance at three concerts in Tallinn, Tartu and Rapla. The work will be performed by the chamber choir Voces Tallinn, conducted by the author. The cycle consists of seven songs and it will be interwoven with the choral music by Cyrillus Kreek. The concerts will take place on September 30 at 7 pm at Tallinn St. John's Church, October 1 at 6 pm at Tartu St. John's Church, and October 2 at Rapla Church, Pärt Uusberg's hometown.

Pärt Uusberg has previously collaborated with the Voces Tallinn as a singer, conductor and composer. Most recently, for the 20th anniversary of the Voces Tallinn, he composed the work Song of Praise ("Kiituselaul") for mixed choir and orchestra (text: Ernst Enno, Pslams of David translated by Vello Salo and Indrek Hirv in Estonian), which premiered in September 2019 at St. John's Church in Tallinn.

Composer and conductor Pärt Uusberg graduated from the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School in choral conducting (2009, with Heli Jürgenson) and obtained a master's degree in composition (2014, with Professor Tõnu Kõrvits) and in choral conducting (2018, Professor Tõnu Kaljuste) from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. He is currently a freelance composer and conductor. As a composer, he has mainly composed choral music and has released several albums with his music. He has been the chief conductor of the chamber choir Head Ööd, Vend, which he founded since 2008, conducted as a guest conductor the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and the Estonian National Male Choir, and led different workshops and lectures in various international choral events. In 2019, Pärt Uusberg won the 1at prize at the 7th Competition for Young Estonian Conductors. He is the artistic director of the upcoming 13th youth song celebration. The Estonian Choir Association has recognized him twice with the title of Choral Composer of the Year (2012, 2018), and the title of Conductor of the Year (2022).

Chamber Choir Voces Tallinn is a semi-professional choir, that has been active for more than 20 years. In the first ten seasons, the choir's chief conductor was Risto Joost, and from 2011 to 2014, Kaspar Mänd took over the position. In addition, the Voces Tallinn has sung under several other great conductors (Peter Phillips, Stephen Layton, Neeme Järvi, etc.) and performed with well-known orchestras and ensembles (ERSO, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Tallinn Baroque Orchestra, Corelli Baroque Orchestra, etc.). Since the summer of 2022, the choir has collaborated with choirmaster Kristi Jagodin, the choir's artistic advisor is Risto Joost, and the vocal coach is Eha Pärg.
