On September 29, Mihkel Kerem’s Divertimento will be premiered in Joensuu Carelia Hall, Finland. New work will be performed by Joensuu City Orchestra under the baton of Estonian conductor Mikk Murdvee. The concert program includes also Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 and Kimmo Hakola’s Guitar Concerto (soloist Timo Korhonen).

New piece was written in the beginning of 2007 inspite of the temporary disappearance of the score caused by the airline company. The piece itself is an example of the fact that contemporary music could be easy to listen and at the same time offer the musicians the physical pleasure of playing.

Mihkel Kerem graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music in violin with Mirjam Kerem and composition with Prof. Jaan Rääts in 2003. In 2002–2004, Kerem improved his skills under the supervision of Levon Chilingirian and William Mival at the Royal Music College in London, obtaining his Master’s degree in 2006. Since the autumn of 2002, Mihkel Kerem lives in London. His worklist consists of more than 100 works. Although he has composed orchestral music (e. g. three symphonies) and instrumental concertos, the chamber music dominates in Kerem’s output (9 string quartets, 3 sonatas for violin and piano, 6 sonatines for violin solo etc).
