Performance of Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Fifth Symphony in Helsinki

This week, Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Symphony No. 5 (2004) for orchestra, electric guitar and big band is in the program of two concerts of Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. Guitar soloist is Nguyen Le, HPO is on stage together with UMO Jazz Orchestra, concert is conducted by Olari Elts. Four-part extensive work, where representatives from the fields of jazz, rock and modern symphonic music meet, was commissioned by Stuttgart Broadcast for their big band and symphony orchestra and was premiered in Stuttgart in 2005 also under the baton of Olari Elts. Elts is now the HPO’s Principal Guests Conductor as of autumn 2011. The second work of the concert evening is Igor Stravinsky’s Symphony in Three Movements.

Concerts will take place on October 23 and 24 at 7 pm in Helsinki Music Centre.
