New work by Toivo Tulev in Amsterdam

On June 14, a new work by Toivo Tulev entitled Pöördub algusse / Returns to the beginning (2012) for chamber orchestra and prepared piano will be premiered at Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ in Amsterdam. The work is commissioned by Stichting Holland Festival. The concert also includes works Tabula rasa (1977) for two violins, prepared piano and string orchestra by Arvo Pärt, and Concerto Grosso No 1 for two violins, klavicembalo, prepared piano an string orhcestra by Alfred Schnittke.

The performers are the Holland Radio Chamber Orchestra under conducting of Martyn Brabbins, violin soloists are Simone Lamsma and Henning Kraggerud, the piano player Pascal Meyer. After the concert a meeting with composer Toivo Tulev will take place.

The concert Tabula rasa: Tallinn 30-9-77 on June 14 in Amsterdam commemorates the historic concert which took place 35 years ago – on September 30 in 1977 at the hall of the Tallinn Polytechnical Institute, where Arvo Pärt’s Tabula rasa was for the very first time performed. Tabula rasa was then composed for the 30th birthday of Gidon Kremer – one of the first performers of the work.
