MustonenFest

From January 30 to February 8, MustonenFest, which offers 10 concerts in Tallinn, Tartu, Pärnu and Jõhvi, will be held. This year the festival is focused on Middle East and holocaust.

Festival features a great number of musicians from Estonia and abroad: Estonian National Symphony Orchestra with Mario Brunello (cello, Italy) and soprano Mhairi Lawson (Great Britain), conducted by Andres Mustonen (January 30 at Pärnu Concert House, Januray 31 at Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn);
English early music ensemble La Serenissima (February 1 at Tallinn Town Hall);
early music ensemble Hortus Musicus with Mario Brunello (February 2 at Estonia Concert Hall) and Bracha Kol – mezzo soprano, recorder, Israel (February 3 at Estonia Concert Hall);
girls’ choir Ellerhein, chamber choir Collegium Musicale, soprano Kädy Plaas, baritone Tõnis Kaumann, string quartet Prezioso and Hortus Musicus (February 4 at St. Nicholas’s Church in Tallinn, program dedicted to John Tavener’s music);
Art Jazz Quartet (Jaak Sooäär – guitar, Andres Mustonen – violin, Taavo Remmel – double bass, Tanel Ruben – percussion) with Bracha Kol, Gil Shohat – piano, Iisrael and Liudas Mockunas – soprano saxophone, Lithuania (February 5 at House of Blackheads);
chamber orchestra Israel Camerata with soloists Taysir Elias – ud and Menachem Wiesenberg – piano (February 5, Vanemuise Concert House, February 6 at Estonia Concert Hall);
David Ensemble from Kairo (February 6 at Pärnu Concert House, February 7 at St. John’s Church in Tallinn, kirik, February 8 at Jõhvi St. Michael’s Church in Jõhvi) and
Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir with soloists Bracha Kol, Isabel Villanueva – viola, Spain abd Gil Shohat, conducted by Andres Mustonen.

International festival MustonenFest, formerly known as Baroque Music Festival, has grown out of the Baroque music concert series by Andres Mustonen and Hortus Musicus started in 1989. Festival has brought to Estonia a great number of acclaimed musicians from different countries and broadened the boundaries of eras. Lately, the festival has focused on cultural interaction between East and West and individuality of national cultures. The artistic director of the festival is violinist and conductor Andres Mustonen, festival is organised by the State Concert Institute Eesti Kontsert.
