Music festival "Perfect Silence" to begin in Tallinn

February 13 – 17, festival „Perfect Silence” organized by Tallinn Philharmonic Society and record company ECM will take place in Tallinn. Four concerts will present musicians who have cooperated with German record label ECM. NYYD Ensemble will perform chamber music from 17th century till modern times. Pianist François Couturier plays with his quartet music inspired by Andrei Tarkovsky’s films. Tunesian oud player Anouar Brahem’s works will be performed by his trio. The festival will end with the concert of Nik Bärtsch’s band Ronin.

At the opening concert on February 13 at 8 p.m. in Kanuti Guild Hall (Pikk 20), NYYD Ensemble with Olari Elts conducting will perform music from different eras. The programme includes music by György Kurtág (1926), Bent Sörensen (1958), Jan Dismas Zelenka (1675-1745), Elliott Carter (1908), Thomas Larcher (1963) and Estonian composer Erkki-Sven Tüür (1959).

On February 15 at 8 p.m. concert titled as “Nostalghia – Song for Tarkovsky” will take place in Tallinn St. John’s Church (Vabaduse Sq. 1). French-German quartet staffed by François Couturier (piano), Anja Lechner (cello), Jean-Marc Larché (soprano saxophone) and Jean-Louis Matinier (accordion) will perform François Couturier’s works released on CD of the same name in 2006 and inspired by Andrei Tarkovsky’s films.

On February 16 at 8 p.m. in Blackhead Brotherhood’s House (Pikk 26) Anouar Brahem’s trio staffed by Anouar Brahem (oud), François Couturier (piano), Jean-Louis Matinier (accordion) will pweform Anouar Brahem’s music from the ECM CD “Le Voyage de Sahar” (2006). Tunesian Anouar Brahem’s music has been characterized as arabian, having motifs also from other musical styles.

On February 17 at 8 p.m. Nik Bärtsch’s ensemble Ronin: Nik Bärtsch (piano), Kaspar Rast (drums), Björn Meyer (bass), Andi Pupato (percussion) and Sha (bass/contrabass clarinet) will be playing in Rock Café (Tartu Rd. 80D). Ensemble’s music is alloy of very different musical styles (funk, contemporary classical, Japanese ritual music and others). Ronin’s concert in Tallinn starts the presentation tour of their new CD “Holon”.
