Merike Pedaste

July 18, 1987 Tartu

Merike Pedaste has studied in Heino Eller Tartu Music School composition under Alo Põldmäe and classical singing with Aino Kõiv. In 2017, she graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in music pedagogy (BA), studied there additionally composition (teacher Tõnu Kõrvits) and orchestral conducting (teacher Toomas Kapten). In 2019, Pedaste graduated from the University of Tartu in speciality of teacher of arts and technology (MA).

Currently Merike Pedaste works as a music teacher in Nõo Elementary School and Tartu Tamme School, plays trumpet in University of Tartu Symphony Orchestra.

Merike Pedaste has written in different genres from children’s songs to sinfoniettas. Her solo song "Hingetuks" ("Breathless") won Villem Kapp Composition Contest in 2016.
