KAUMANN’S LOPI AND LAPI WILL BE PREMIERED AT THE TÜRI SPRING FESTIVAL

On 31 May at 9 pm, Tõnis Kaumann’s humorous chamber opera Lopi and Lapi will be premiered at the Türi Spring Festival. The second music festival will take place in Türi from 29 May to 1 June. The festival brings together classical music and nature. The principal theme of the festival will be „forest”. Alongside the many concerts and recitals there will be guided walks, lectures and exhibition. The concert programs will emphasize musical works which have been inspired by nature.

The high point of the Türi Spring Festival will be the premiere of Kaumann’s new opera Lopi and Lapi in Community Center of Oisu on May 31. Opera is produced in cooperation with Association of Estonian Professional Musicians and Tallinn Philharmonic Society and is specially commissioned for this festival. Lopi and Lapi is based on the fairytale of the same name by Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald. Libreto is written by Leelo Tungal, the director of the production is Liis Kolle, designer Reili Evart and conductor Aivo Välja. Roles are sung by Annaliisa Pillak (mezzo soprano), Taavi Tampuu (baritone), Kristel Kurik (soprano) and Mati Turi (tenor), the ensemble is staffed by six musicians: Kaido Välja (violin), Arvo Haasma (viola), Heimo Hodanjonok (clarinet), Jaak Lutsoja (accordion), Kaido Suss (bassoon) and Jüri Lepp (double bass).

At the Türi Spring Festival will also perform Kadri-Ann Sumera (piano), ensemble „Svetilen” (Russia), Ulla Krigul (organ), the runic song evening will be lead by Jaak Johanson and Riina Roose. Composer Alo Põldmäe’s nature photo exhibition will be opened, the reading and discussion evenings by Märt-Matis Lill, Leelo Tungal, Maarja Kangro and Toomas Trapido will be broadcasted by Estonian Public Broadcasting in their series „Night University”, nature excursions will be guided by zoologists Fred Jüssi and Veljo Runnel. Patron of the Festival is Fred Jüssi and artistic director and producer Iren Lill.
