Karl Johann Lattikas

b. May 31, 1994 Tallinn

Karl Johann Lattikas started his music studies with the piano in the year 2000 by Eero Läte in Nõmme Music School in Tallinn, Estonia. He continued in the year 2005 with Martti Raide in Tallinn Music High School. In 2007 he started studying the percussion as a second instrument before fully committing to the latter a few years later, with teachers Kristjan Mäeots, Aleksandra Kremenetski and Vambola Krigul. In 2013 he was accepted to the percussion class of the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts in Helsinki, Finland. There he studied with Antti Rislakki, Pasi Suomalainen, Samuli Viitanen, Lassi Erkkilä, Kazutaka Morita and Timothy Ferchen. He obtained the Bachelor's degree in 2017. Nowadays he is studying towards his Master’s degree in the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, Standort Aachen with Patrick Kersken, Johannes Wippermann, Carlos Tarcha and Peter Haensch. Lattikas has participated in masterclasses by John R. Beck, Mark Braafhart, Damien Bassman, She-E Wu and Raphael Haeger.

As a soloist, he has played in front of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and Estonian Sinfonietta. In December 2018, he performed a successful solo recital „Bach and Marimba“ in Vaba Lava, Tallinn, Estonia. In January 2019 as well as January 2020, Lattikas played at the Tallinn Bach Music Festival BachFest „Bach Differently“.

He has been working with numerous different ensembles and orchestras all around Europe, including: European Union Youth Orchestra, Baltic Sea Philharmonic, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Estonian Sinfonietta, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Helsinki Sinfonietta, Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, Kokkola Opera Ensemble, Lohja City Orchestra, Vaasa City Orchestra, Estonian Festival Orchestra and several others. In 2019, Lattikas played for 3 months in Guiyang Symphony Orchestra in China.

The broad orchestral experience has given him a chance to perform under the batons of world renowned conductors on the stages worldwide (such as Peru and Iran) in addition to some of the most prestigious venues in the world: The Golden Hall of Musikverein in Vienna, Austria; Kölner Philharmonie, Philharmonie München in Germany and The Grand Hall of Philharmonie St. Petersburg, Russia.

Karl Johann Lattikas is a board member of Estonian Sinfonietta.
