Jüri Tamverk

Chamber music for different instruments, including solo songs and solo works for piano, forms the basic part of Jüri Tamverk’s oeuvre. He has also composed orchestral music (e. g. Symphony, Symphonic Poem), cantata for mezzo soprano, mixed choir and symphony orchestra and some choral songs. 

In 1985, Tamverk’s cantata Ding won the 1st and vocal cycle Everything Lasts Only One Moment won the 3rd prize at the composition competition of all over the Soviet Uninon.

Jüri Tamverk graduated from Tallinn Music High School in piano with Professor Bruno Lukk in 1973 and continued his studies with Gleb Akselrod at Moscow Conservatory, graduating in 1979. In 1984, Tamverk received his composers’ diploma from Tallinn State Conservatory under the guidance of Professor Eino Tamberg.

Tamverk received in 1976 a diploma at the Soviet Republic competition for pianists in Tallinn. In 1980ies, Tamverk gave solo recitals and recorded piano music for Estonian Radio, e. g. works by Heino Eller, Jaan Rääts, Uno Naisso and his own compositions. He has performed together with violinist Tõnu Reimann, cellist Teet Järvi and in piano duo with Ivo Sillamaa.

In 1979–2007, Jüri Tamverk worked as piano, improvisation and composition teacher at Tallinn University and since 1996, he holds the same post at Nõmme Music School.
