Indrek Vijard

b. 27.09.1965 Tallinn

Indrek Vijard graduated from Tallinn Music High School in 1983 under the guidance of Tiina Kurik and from Tallinn Conservatoire in 1990 on choir conducting with Kuno Areng. Since 1995 Indrek Vijard is director of Nõmme Music School.

Indrek Vijard has been conductor of several choirs including male choirs Restauraator and Forte and Järvamaa Youth Male Choir. He has also worked as choir master of Estonian Boys’ Choir and participated at Estonian National Male Choir’s, Tallinn Chamber Choir’s and chamber choirs Arsis’ and Dextera´s work.

Currently Indrek Vijard is conductor of several choirs as Estonian United Boys’ Choir “Kalev” (since 1997), Järvamaa Boys’ Choir (since 1998), Nõmme Music School Chamber Choir and Tallinn University Male Choir (since 2000). He has been first performer of Estonian composers works as Jüri-Ruut Kangur, Piret Rips and Urmas Sisask including cantata Pro Patra by boys’ choir “Kalev”.

Indrek Vijard has been conductor of several Estonian Song Celebrations and Song Days. He has participated as conductor at Estonian Song Celebrations since 1993, in 2008 Indrek Vijard was artistic director of 26th boys and male choir song day in Kuressaare. In 2014 he will be principal conductor of boys choirs at XXVI Estonian Song Celebration “Aja puudutus. Puudutuse aeg” ("Touched by Time. The Time to Touch").

Indrek Vijard belongs to Estonian Choral Conductors Association and is also board member of  Estonian Choral Association and Estonian Male Choirs Association (since 2002). He has been rewarded The Order of Järvamaa (2006), The Best Collective Director of Järvamaa (2002) and Gustav Ernesaks Scolarship for developing choral activities in Estonia (2014).
