Estonian Festival Orchestra’s Third European Tour

This January Paavo Järvi and the Estonian Festival Orchestra return to home base in Pärnu on the Baltic Coast to prepare for their third European tour which takes them to Tallinn, Dortmund, Stuttgart, Zürich, Vienna and Munich from 16 to 25 January. With different programmes featuring works by Pärt, Silvestrov, Shostakovich, and Tchaikovsky, the orchestra is also joined by soloists Sol Gabetta and Maximilian Hornung for performances of Dvořák’s Cello Concerto.

The New Year’s Eve Concert „Alpine Voices“

The New Year’s Eve concerts of Estonian Sinfonietta will take place on December 28th at 7 pm in Tallinn House of Blackheads and on December 29th at 7 pm in Viljandi Traditional Music Center. The audience can enjoy merry pieces by Leopold and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Anton Zimmermann.

Estonian Sinfonietta presents CD „Kuma” with instrumental pieces by Pärt Uusberg

On December 9th at 5 p.m., the Christmas time concert of Estonian Sinfonietta will take place in White Hall of Tallinn House of the Blackheads. At this concert the brand new CD „Glow” with instrumental music of Pärt Uusberg will be presented.

Contemporary music festival „Afekt“ focuses on the idea of a border state

On October 25, the XXII international contemporary music festival „Afekt“ will start, which this year will take place in Tartu, Tallinn and Narva. With the theme „Border State“, this year the focus is on the idea of a border state both geographically and as a musical expression, ideas taken to the uttermost extremes. The focus will be on internationally acclaimed composers such as Helena Tulve, Jānis Petraškevičs and György Ligeti, who has the 100th birth anniversary this year

Estonian Sinfonietta opens its season

The Estonian Sinfonietta will open its season with concert „Chimes“ on October 22 at 5 p.m. in Tallinn House of the Blackheads. Alongside works of Veljo Tormis, Jaan Rääts and Arvo Pärt, Jaakko Kuusisto's magical Cello Concerto will be performed for the first time in Estonia by Jan-Erik Gustafsson.

Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen Voted Gramophone Orchestra Of The Year

The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen has been named Gramophone Orchestra of the Year at this year’s prestigious awards ceremony in London. In the only award to be voted by the public, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen claimed by far the majority of votes, outstripping fellow nominees, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra and Orchestre de Paris.

Festival TubIN takes place in Tartu and Tallinn

Festival TubIN 2023 steadfastly continues on its journey of introducing the symphonies of Eduard Tubin, and making sense of events and topics related to those symphonies. The TubIN festival will take place from September 28 to October 1 and this year will also come to Tallinn.

Concerts of Arvo Pärt Days take place all over Estonia

Arvo Pärt’s work will be in dialogue with many composers at the Pärt Days concerts taking place from September 2 to 11, 2023. Pärt – Saint-Saëns; Pärt – Tormis; Pärt – Kõrvits; Pärt – Tüür; Pärt – Lang. However, Arvo Pärt’s birthday concert on September 11 will feature only his own work. You can take part in the Arvo Pärt Days by visiting churches and performance venues all over Estonia: Pärnu, Narva, Viljandi, Paide, Rapla, Tartu, Viimsi, Tallinn and Laulasmaa.

„Kratt“ – new album on Alpha Classics compiles works by Eduard Tubin, Witold Lutosławski and Grażyna Bacewicz recorded live at the Pärnu Music Festival

For their latest recording on Alpha Classics (release date 23 June), Paavo Järvi and the Estonian Festival Orchestra celebrate composers from Estonia and Poland. The two nations were closely connected by their history and the corridor imposed on them by 20th-century occupation, which resulted in strong musical ties.

Concert dedicated to the memory of the victims of the deportations will be held in St. John's Church in Tallinn

On Wednesday, June 14, at 7 p.m., a concert „Along the Milky Way“ dedicated to the memory of the victims of the deportations will be held in St. John's Church in Tallinn. Works of Arvo Pärt, Galina Grigorjeva, Tõnu Kõrvits and Henryk Mikołaj Górecki will be performed by the soloists of the Estonian Sinfonietta.

Estonian Sinfonietta’s final concert of te season „The Gold of Vienna. The Night.“

On May 21 at 5 p.m., the Estonian Sinfonietta will play the music of the Viennese classic Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the new classic, composer Arnold Schönberg, in the Tallinn House of the Blackheads.

Pärnu Music Festival tickets are on sale now

For ten days from 12 to 21 July Estonia’s summer capital will be filled with the buzz and love of music-making. The 2023 Pärnu Music Festival brings legendary violinist and violist Pinchas Zukerman to Estonia and Neeme Järvi will conduct the festival’s opening concert. Paavo Järvi leads the Estonian Festival Orchestra in four concerts and Kristjan Järvi returns with the Baltic Sea Philharmonic.

Estonian Music Days 2023 programme announced

Estonia’s largest festival of premieres Estonian Music Days announced the programme of contemporary music concerts taking place from April 26 to May 7.

Estonian Classical Album of the Year 2023 was revealed. It is the album "Estonian Premieres" recorded by the Estonian Festival Orchestra and conductor Paavo Järvi, released by Alpha Classics.

The works of composer Mihkel Kerem will fill a symphonic evening in Pärnu

The Pärnu City Orchestra will give a generous concert of works by Mihkel Kerem under the direction of conductor Mikk Murdvee. With violinist Triin Ruubel-Lilleberg as the soloist, Kerem's first major instrumental concerto - the Violin Concerto - will be performed. The recently composed Cello Concerto (2020), in which Canadian-born Dutch cellist Willem Stam will perform as a soloist, will have its world premiere. The evening will be concluded with Kerem’s Symphony No. 6.
