ISCM World Music Days 2019 will be held in Estonia

The theme of the 2019’s festival „Through the Forest of Songs” is dedicated to choral music. Festival’s artistic directors aim at interconnecting contemporary music with various creative fields such as performance art, literature, architecture and video art. Concerts will be held in unique venues in Tallinn, Tartu, Laulasmaa and Alatskivi. 9-days-long festival World Music Days 2019 will be the contemporary classical music event with the largest international reach ever held in Estonia.

Estonian Music Week in Budapest

On Friday, Estonian Music Week begins in Budapest, where Estonian top musicians will give concerts in the framework of Estonia 100 anniversary programme. Estonian Music Week programme presents Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Mari Kalkun’s duo, trio Peedu Kass Momentum and Tormis Quartet. The Estonian Music Week is organized by the Estonian Institute in Hungary.

Erkki-Sven Tüür is a guest composer at the RUSK festival in Finland, his orchestral works to be performed in Czech and Sweden

From November 20 to 24, Tüür is a guest composer at the RUSK chamber music festival in Jakobstad, Finland. His Violin Concerto No. 2 and Accordion Concerto will be performed for several times in Sweden, orchestral work „Le poids des vies non vécues“ will be performed under the baton of Arvo Volmer in Prague.

Today, Naxos releases Toivo Tulev’s new album, where composer's music is performed by Latvian Radio Choir and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Kaspars Putniņš, Ka Bo Chan (countertenor), Ieva Ezeriete (soprano), Inga Martinsone (soprano), Virgo Veldi (alto saxophone), Age Juurikas (positive organ), Heigo Rosin (percussion) and Vambola Krigul (percussion).

Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Violin Concerto No. 2 to be premiered at the Tallinn Philharmonic Society’s final concert of the season

On May 3, the world premiere of Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Violin Concerto No. 2 „Angel’s Share“ will take place in Tallinn House of Blackheads, new work will be performed by Hugo Ticciati, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and conductor Risto Joost. Concert is followed by „Tüür-remix“, where composer’s music is performed in new light by Tiit Kikas (violin, laserharp), Mairo Marjamaa (saxophone), Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and conductor Risto Joost.

Estonian Music Days to begin next week

The theme of this year’s festival is „Sacred“. Sacred in the broadest, most beautiful and most human sense – from a blissful feeling of holiness to a quiet state of gratitude, from daily celebrations to uniqueness and miracle. Festival presents more than 30 new pieces from our outstanding composers of younger and older generations performed by our top collectives and interpreters. On April 13, The LHV award for new compositions „Au-tasu“ will be handed out in Estonia Concert Hall.

The premiere of Rudolf Tobias’s oratorio’s „Jonah“ version in Estonian language and original orchestration in Estonia

On June 7, Rudolf Tobias’s oratorio’s „Jonah’s Commission“ (later named „Joonas“ („Jonah“)) version in Estonian language and original orchestration will be performed first time in Estonia in the program of Nargenfestival in Tallinn St. John’s church.

Festival Baltic States in Konzerthaus Berlin

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, festival of Baltic music will take place in Konzerthaus Berlin from February 16 to 25.

Estonian National Symphony Orchestra’s third concert tour in the U.S

Tomorrow, on January 25, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra starts its third concert tour in the U.S under the baton of Neeme Järvi and Arvo Volmer. The orchestra will give seven concerts from Florida to California, performing music by Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Jean Sibelius, Antonín Dvořák, Arvo Pärt, Heino Eller and Eduard Tubin. Soloists will be Triin Ruubel (violin), Ben Beilman (violin) and Garrick Ohlsson (piano).

Concerts of Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Arvo Pärt Weekend in Brussels

From January 26 to 28, festival „Arvo Pärt Weekend“ dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia will take place in Flagey Concert Hall in Brussels. Composer’s works will be performed by Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra together with Belgian interpreters.

World premiere of Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Symphony No. 9 „Mythos“

Estonian Festival Orchestra under the baton of Paavo Järvi will give the first performance of Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Ninth Symphony „Mythos“. Concerts dedicated to the 100th birthday of the Republic of Estonia will take place on January 16 at 7 pm in Tallinn, Estonia Concert Hall and January 18 at 8 pm in Brussels, Bozar Centre for Fine Arts.
