Piret Rips-Laul composer recital

On April 28 at 7 pm, Piret Rips-Laul composer recital will take place at Kaarli Church in Tallinn. It forms a part of series A Composer in Residence for Every District in Tallinn that is Estonian Composers’ Union’s contribution to the program of European Capital of Culture Tallinn 2011. Piret Rips-Laul is residing in Kristiine in April.

Piret Rips-Laul is one of the best-known authors of children and youth songs nowadays. The program of the concert consists of both secular and sacred choral music. The new choral cycle on the subject of the nature Let’s Go And See! (2011) based on poems by Estonian poets Milvi Panga, Anna Haava and Ernst Enno will receive its world premiere performance. New choral work contains three movements: I Let’s Go And See for male choir, II A Happy Song for children’s choir, III Storks Are Coming! for soprano, male choir, string quartet, oboe and piano.

Additionally, several children’s songs (Music, Fears, Dream of the Queen, Wunderkinds’ Song, Happyness, He Came), male choir song Myself and parts from Missa brevis and Stabat Mater will be performed by Estonian National Male Choir (conductor Veronika Portsmuth), Estonian TV toddlers’ and children’s choir (conductor Lii Leitmaa), vocal soloists Susanna Liisa Onoper, Kaisa Padur, Mirjam Mesak and Arete Teemets, string quartet Prezioso, Riivo Kallasmaa (oboe) and Piret Rips-Laul herself on the piano. Entrance is free.

Although the composer recital forms the main event of the residing program, it has already brought along several concerts at Tallinn City’s Board of Disabled People and different schools and meetings with the audience during the April. The next composers in the series A Composer in Residence for Every District in Tallinn will be Tauno Aints at Haabersti (May), Erkki-Sven Tüür at Kesklinn (September), Urmas Sisask at Lasnamäe (October) and Tõnu Kõrvits at Nõmme (November).
