New work by René Eespere will be premiered by Mari Tampere

On April 27, Violin Gala will take place at Estonia Concert Hall at 7 pm, marking the 60th anniversary of violinist and pedagogue Mari Tampere.

Besides the jubilarian also Anna-Liisa Bezrodny, Ruth Haav, Sigrid Kuulmann, Andrus Haav, Mikk Murdvee, Satu Savioja (Finland) and Bruno Vidal Moreno (Spain) will perform with Symphony Orchestra of Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre conducted by Mikk Murdvee.

The jubilee concert will present René Eespere’s new work Cantus III for violin and chamber orchestra (2011), dedicated to Mari Tampere. Cantus III will be performed by Tampere herself. In addition, the program also consists of works by Niccolò Paganini, Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Violin Gala is organised in cooperation with Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and State Concert Institute Eesti Kontsert.

Mari Tampere (b. April 22, 1951) graduated from Tallinn Music High School with Ivi Tivik in 1970 and Moscow Conservatory with Igor Bezrodny in 1975. She improved her skills at the postgraduate level in Moscow. She works as the pedagogue at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and Sibelius Academy in Finland. She has taught also at Moscow Conservatory. Tampere has participated in many Estonian and international competition juries as well as given master courses. She has performed both as a chamber musician and a soloist with many orchestras.

The concert tours have taken her besides Estonia also to many countries in Europe and Russia. She has premiered several works by Estonian composers and recorded violin music for Estonian Radio. Since 2000, Tampere is also active as a conductor – she has conducted chamber orchestras in Germany and Spain and also Chamber Orchestra of Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
