Duo Imbi Tarum – Julia Ageyeva Hess will perform in Boston

On June 10, harpsichord duo Imbi Tarum and Julia Ageyeva Hess will give a concert within the Finge Concerts series of Boston Early Music Festival. The program entitled „The Baltic Harpsichord: Now and Then“ consists of Dietrich Buxtehude’s Ciacona, Johann Gottfried Müthel’s Duetto in E flat major, Rein Rannap’s Left in the Sand, René Eespere’s Cum intervallis and ja Tõnu Kõrvits’s Folia. The concert will be held at 12 pm at Gordon Chapel of Old South Church.

Reputable Boston Early Music Festival will be held form June 7 to 14. The festival’s main program presents concerts, opera performances, exhibitions, masterclasses, lectures etc and features among others Hespèrion XXI with Jordi Savall, Sequentia, Gesualdo Consort Amsterdam, Vox Luminis, Monica Huggett (violin), Harry van der Kamp (bass) and Claudio Monteverdi’s operas „Ulisse“, „Poppea“ and „Orfeus“. Also Fringe Concert series forms an important part of the festival presenting  this year also concerts by Chatham Baroque, New York Continuo Collective, Pegasus Early Music with NYS Baroque, Hespersus etc.

Imbi Tarum and Julia Ageyeva Hess began playing together as a duo in 2013 and made their debut performance the same year at the Viljandi Early Music Festival. Further concerts followed at historical venues such as st. John’s Church and Town Hall in Tallinn, Kõltsu Manor as part of the 2014 Estonian Harpsichord Festival and Ravenna in Italy. The two artists share a passion for and understanding of performance on early keyboard instruments. As a duo, they seek to explore the rich potential of sonorities and expressive means offered by two harpsichords while presenting rarely heard repertoire to their audience. This includes transcriptions as well as newly commissioned pieces.
