Premiere of Tõnu Kõrvits’s Stabat Mater in London

Tõnu Kõrvits’s new choral work Stabat Mater will be premiered by The Sixteen in LSO St. Luke’s on June 4. The concert project „Stabat Mater 2014: Spirit, Strength & Sorrow“ presents three new Stabat Maters commissioned by the Genesis Foundation from composers Alissa Firsova, Tõnu Kõrvits and Matthew Martin. New choral pieces are premiered alongside music by the Renaissance master William Byrd and readings of poems by William Blake. Choir is conducted by its founder Harry Christophers. The new works will be recorded on the CORO label for release next year.

On Friday, June 6, Kõrvits’s Kreek’s Notebook for mixed choir and strings will be performed in Waldesian Temple in Turin, Italy. The extensive work on Estonian sacred folk tunes collected by Cyrillus Kreek will be performed by La Bottega Musicale choir and orchestra under the baton of Dario Ribechi. Concert titled as Rune Baltiche, Musiche dal lontano Nord-Est presents also music by Cyrillus Kreek, Veljo Tormis and Arvo Pärt.
