Tõnu Kõrvits’s work 'The New Moon / A Ghealach Ur' performed in Mexico

On October 26, Tõnu Kõrvits’s work The New Moon / A Ghealach Ur for mezzo soprano, saxophone quartet and symphony orchestra was performed in Mexico. The performers were mezzo soprano Beatriz Lorena Montaño, Orquesta Sinfonica San Luis Potos and saxophone quartet Sax 4th Avenue from Ohio, the conductor was Lloyd Butler.

The concert program included additionally Symphony No. 38 (Prague) by W. A. Mozart, Introduction and Rondo capriccioso Op. 28 and orchestral suite The Wasps by R. Vaughan Williams. The concert took place in San Luis Potosí at Cine Teatro Alameda at 9 pm.

The work A Ghealach Ur / New Moon / Noorkuu for mezzo soprano, symphony orchestra and saxophone quartet is based on texts of Carmina Gadelica (Celtic prayers) and composed in 2011. The work was first perfomed on January 30, 2011 in Ada Freed Center, Ohio by mezzo soprano Orna Arania, Estonian saxophone quartet SaxEst and Symphony Orchestra of Ohio Northern University, conducted by Lloyd Butler.
