Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Flamma (“a blazing fire” in Latin) is abundant in musical allusions, fire as spectacle, as a destructive and purifying force. Work is dedicated to the performers, commission is supported by the orchestra’s patron Mrs Barbara Blackman.
After the performance of Flamma, Henryk Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 2 (soloist Richard Tognetti) and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 will be performed. Tüür has been cooperated with the Australian Chamber Orchestra earlier as well – with the recorder virtuoso Genevieve Lacey, the first performance of Tüür’s Whistles and Whispers from Uluru was given on their Australian tour in 2007. In August 2011, Erkki-Sven Tüür’s cycle Action.Passion.Illusion was played at ten concerts in Australia by Australian Chamber Orchestra’s “little sister” ACO2. |
