Ester Mägi "The Sea" to be performed at the Europe Day Concert in London

 
On May 9, Ester Mägi's orchestral work The Sea will be performed at the Europe Day Concert at St John's Smith Square in London. The concert will be given by the Northern Chords Festival Orchestra conducted by Jonathan Bloxham, with Portuguese tenor Luis Gomes as a soloist.

Ester Mägi's The Sea was written for the 12th Estonian General Dance Celebration, which took place in July 1981 in Tallinn, the dance choreographer was Liia Palmse. The premiere of the 99-year-old Estonian composer Ester Mägi’s work in UK will take place at the Europe Day Concert.

The theme of the concert is Journeys, both earthbound and spiritual. The program includes also Felix Mendelssohn’s Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage, Antonín Dvořák’s Finale from Symphony No. 9, Jean Sibelius’ All’Ouvertura from Scènes Historiques, Edward Elgar’s Variation XIII from Enigma Variations, Johann Strauss’ Polka Vergnugungszug as well as arias from Giuseppe Verdi’s, Giacomo Meyerbeer’s and Benjamin Godard’s operas.

Annual Europe Day Concert will be livestreamed from St John’s Smith Square on Sunday, 9th May at noon UK time.
