Concert series Heli ja Keel Presents: The Accompaniment of Life: Timo Steiner and Ben Okri

The next concerts in the series Heli ja Keel (Sound and Language) are dedicated to the oeuvre of composer Timo Steiner and one of the foremost African authors in the post-modern and post-colonial traditions, Ben Okri. The concerts will be held on May 31 at 8:30 pm at Hopner House in Tallinn and June 2 at 7 pm at Assembly Hall of the Universty of Tartu.

The program consists of Ballade for piano (2008), premiere of new work based on the text by Ben Okri for piano quintet, The Accopmaniment of Life for toddlers’ choir and string quartet (2013), Beauty_Deformity-Freedom for piano (2012), It’s Nice to Listen You for viola and piano (2014) and Something Brings to Mind the Sounds of Accordion for piano (2013) by Timo Steiner. Ben Okri will read an excerpts from his books Astonishing the Gods and The Famished Road.

Steiner’s music will be performed by string quartet Prezioso, Diana Liiv (piano), Pre-School Choir of Children Music Studio by Estonian Television (in Tallinn) and toddlers’ choirs of singing studios Fa-Diees and Laulupesa (in Tartu). After the concert, Ben Okri’s An African Elegy presentation of Estonian translation will be held.

Heli ja Keel concert series started in 2012. The aim of the series is to experience the connections and synergy of the art of sound and word and perceive the special relationships between creative persons.
