Estonian singer Arete Teemets won first prize in Paris

Estonian singer Arete Teemets won first prize at Flame competition in Paris. The competition that took place for 25th time comprised more than 50 renowned singers in classical singing category from France, Russia, China and South Korea . In classical singing category the jury selected two laureates, soprano Arete Teemets and mezzo soprano Marion Lebegue (France).

Arete Teemets studied singing at the Estonian Music Academy with docent Nadia Kurem in 2004-2009 and at the Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia with maestra Rebecca Berg in 2009-2012 where she finished her Master's studies with maximum grade. She studied at Rebecca Berg's singing class under the Erasmus program also during the academic year of 2007/2008. In 2010 Arete Teemets received first prize at the Santa Chiara Classical Singing Competition in the category of sacred classical music, winning the Chori Praefecti award. She has also received third prize from the International Opera Singers Competition 2011 in Spoleto (Concorso Comunita' Europea). In same year, she was awarded with the prize of Premio Via Vittoria which is given to the best singer of Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia. In Estonia, she has been awarded Young Musician award of Marje and Kuldar Sink in 2010.

Arete Teemets has performed at Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto, Estonian National Opera, Estonian Music Academy Opera Studio etc. Her roles include Madama Vezzosa (Main role in Ciampi's Le Favola dei Tre Gobbi), Lisetta (Main role in Leo's La Zingaretta), Kate Pinkerton (Puccini's Madama Butterfly), Rosina (Mozart's La Finta Semplice), Genovieffa (Puccini's Suor Angelica), Nella (Puccini's Gianni Schicchi), Sandrina (Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera) etc. In addition to that, she has performed with world-famous Italian baritone Renato Bruson celebrating his 50 years in opera stages. In 2012, Arete Teemets had solo concert at Estonian largest opera festival "Saaremaa Opera Days", being the youngest opera singer ever to have such concert.
