Performances of Erkki-Sven Tüür’s accordion concerto in Finland

Erkki-Sven Tüür

Mika Väyrynen

Erkki-Sven Tüür’s accordion concerto Prophecy (2007) is once again in the program of accordionist Mika Väyrynen, who will perform it this week in front of the Kymi Sinfonietta under the baton of Alexander Mickelthwate. Väyrynen was also the first performer of this piece in 2007, where Turku Philharmonic Orchestra was conducted by Olari Elts in Turku Concert Hall. Väyrynen has performed the concert also in Estonia, Germany, France and other places in Finland. Erkki-Sven Tüür: „Prophecy“ is a reference to the seer phenomenon that has existed in nearly all cultures throughout history. Let us recall that their position has nearly always had multiple meanings – they have been respected, feared, considered dangerous and quite often also sick in the head. Yet they have always had a special relationship with the „other side”. In its own way the music also reflects the energetic levels of the said phenomenon.

Beside Tüür’s accordion concerto, also Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 4 and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 will be performed. Concerts will take place on February 12 in Kotka Concert Hall and February 13 in Kouvola City Hall.
