   Jan Latham Koenig

Benjamin Britten´s "War Requiem" will be performed on 6th of December 19pm at Estonia Concert Hall by Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, mixed choir "Latvia" and Estonian National Opera Boys Choir. Solists are Svetlana Kasyan (soprano, Russia), Paul Nilon (tenor, Great Britain) and Gavin Carr (baritone, Great Britain). Conductor Jan Latham Koenig (Great Britain).

Composer and pianist Benjamin Britten, who is considered the greatest composer of England after Henry Purcell, was a convinced pacifist. His main work "The War Requiem" is dedicated to all the innocent people who have tragically lost their lives in the history of the world. The requiem reveals the piece-serving beliefs of the composer in order to warn the future generations about the nonsense of grabbing weapons.

British conductor Jan Latham Koenig is known for the Estonian audience through the Bigitta Festival, where he conducted Wagner’s opera Lohengrin. He has conducted Britten’s War Requiem several times, recently in 2010 at the 6th Epiphany Week International Festival. The current principal conductor of Novaya Opera, Jan Latham Koenig is a frequent guest at many opera houses around the world, such as Covent Garden, Opèra National Paris-Bastille, Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, German Opera of Berlin, The Royal Danish Opera, etc.
