Viljandi Guitar Festival 2013

From September 17 to 22, Viljandi Guitar Festival will be held for the 6th time. Acknowledged Estonian musicians and outstanding guests from Germany, Sweden, Finland and Norway will perform in Viljandi, Tallinn, Rakvere, Narva and Kuressaare.

The festival features for the first time Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir who will give premiere performances of the brand new works for mixed choir and guitars by Robert Jürjendal, Raul Sööt and Tauno Aints with guitarists Marzi Nyman (Finland), Ain Agan, Laur Joamets and Weekend Guitar Trio. Concerts On 6 Strings and 4 Voices will take place from September 20 to 22, in Tallinn, Viljandi and Rakvere.

Additionally, Peter Fessler (Germany), Peter Bernstein (USA) with Toivo Unt and Ahto Abner, duos Paul Shigihara (Germany) & Jaak Sooäär, Jim Lampi (Great Britain) & Tanel Ruben, Knut Hem (Norway) with Tõun, Riho Sibul, Jaan Jaanson with his quartet, Andre Maaker Trio, Siim Petser Trio, Ola Bengtsson Trio (Sweden) and Tiit Peterson & Neeme Punder will perform.

The aim of the Viljandi Guitar Festival is to promote improvisational and stylistic guitar playing. During the festival, people may hear improvisational guitar players who represent different genres and get to know about different improvisational techniques and types of guitar. The event brings together guitarists from Estonia and abroad, thereat developing international cooperation concerning guitar playing. Workshops for students are also a vital part of the festival. During the festival also the Tiit Paulus Young Guitar Player Prize will be awarded.
