Estonian saxophone music in Amsterdam

Amstel Quartet
 


On February 10 at 2.15 pm, Amstel Quartet and organist Pieter van Dijk will give a concert at Orgelpark, performing mainly of music by Estonian authors Tõnu Kõrvits and Erkki-Sven Tüür. The program consists of Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Excitatio ad contemplandum (1996/2012) new version for saxophone quartet and organ, Spectrum I for organ (1989), Lamentatio for saxophone quartet (1995) and Tõnu Kõrvits’s The Assignation for saxophone quartet (1999) and Sketches of Thule for saxophone quartet and organ (2008). Inbetween, Irish composer Ian Wilson’s new piece will receive its premiere as well as his Atlantica (2001) will be performed.

Amstel Quartet has recorded both The Assignation and Lamentation on its different albums, Sketches of Thule was ensemble’s commission in 2008 and was premiered also at Orgelpark with Pieter van Dijk.
