Annual Awards of the Estonian Music Council and the Estonian Cultural Endowment


On October 1, International Music Day, the laureates of music awards of the year 2012 were announced. Ceremony took place in Tallinn Theatre NO99 which can be watched on the webpage of Estonian National Broadcasting. The performers were Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, singer Iris Vesik, Ensemble U:, VindPower and Anne-Liis Poll’s improvisation ensemble. The artistic director of the evening and conductor was Risto Joost, ceremony was directed by Eva Klemets.

Laureates of Estonian Music Council Music Prizes:

Composition Prize: Arvo Pärt
Interpretation Prize: Neeme Järvi
Prize for significant and outstanding activities in music sphere: Marje Lohuaru

Laureates of the Estonian Cultural Endowment’s Music Foundation awards:

Olari Elts – performance of the oratorio „St. Paul“ and brilliant season
Margo Kõlar – composition „Song of Tower Bells“ and development of electronic music
Kristel Pappel – cogent articles about music theatre
Jüri Reinvere – opera „Purge“ at the Finnish National Opera
Helen Sildna – stimulation of music enterprise and outstanding organisational activity
Mari Tampere – long-term and effectual work as a violin pedagogue and interpreter
Mati Turi – vivid opera roles and versatile concert activity in Estonia and abroad
Meelis Vind – excellent CD „VindPower“ and lively concert activity
Ensemble Resonabilis – copious concert activity and high-level performances of Estonian new music
