Riho Maimets wins the Villiers Quartet Competition

On Sunday, April 29, the final round and concert of the Villiers Quartet’s (UK) new works’ competition took place at St. Andrew's Church, Fulham Fields, London. The winning work of the contest is Sanctus by Riho Maimets.

Sanctus was selected as one of three finalist pieces in the Villiers Quartet Competition along with Jetez! by Chris Roe (UK) and Threnody/Images by Henry B. Stewart (USA).

The British Villiers Quartet announced the competion for new compositions from young composers as part of its 2011-2012 concert season. Six composers have been chosen for the semifinal round of the competition. Three of them were chosen through online voting on quartet’s website.
