Andres Uibo 55

On April 16, organist, composer and pedagogue Andres Uibo will celebrate his 55th birthday with jubilee concert at St. Nicholas’s Church in Tallinn. Uibo’s students, friends and colleagues will be featured at the concert starting at 7 pm. The program consists of Uibo’s own works including one premiere and pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Henryk Wieniawski and Stephen Adams.

  Uibo’s new a cappella choral work Our Father (2011) for mixed choir (based on the Lord’s Prayer in Russian) will receive its world premiere performance by Orthodox Singers under the guidance of Valeri Petrov. The program also consists of Uibo’s Bach im Spiegel (2005, version for cello and ensemble), Licht und Schatten for organ four hands (2005), the 2nd movement of string quartet Er sprach aber, mixed choir songs In Your Kingdom and Happy Praisings (2007), Agnus Dei (2010, premiere of the version for choir and ensemble), the 4th movement of New Jerusalem from Apocalypsis Symphony for choir and ensemble (2004).

In addition to Orthodox Singers, also organists Ulla Krigul, Gustav-Leo Kivirand and Denis Kasparovitsh, counter tenor Ka Bo Chan, flutist Neeme Punder, violinists Mari-Liis Uibo and Andres Mustonen, cellist Aare Tammesalu, pianists Lea Leiten and Ivo Sillamaa, girls’ choir Ellerhein and Hortus Musicus will perform at the concert.

Jubilee concert is organised by the State Concert Institute Eesti Kontsert and will be broadcast live by Estonian classical music radio Klassikaraadio.

Andres Uibo is one of the most outstanding Estonian organist who gives concerts both in Estonia and abroad introducing actively Estonian music in his concert programs. Besides being a highly valued teacher and perfomer he is also known as a producer, artistic director of many festivals (Suure-Jaani Music Festival, Tallinn International Organ Festival) and member of several organisations (Estonian Organ Society, International Artur Kapp Society, Estonian Music Council and others). As a composer he has written pieces for different chamber ensembles where the use of organ is important, works for choirs and solo pieces for organ.
