World premiere of Jüri Reinvere's opera “Purge” at the Finnish National Opera



On April 20, Jüri Reinvere’s opera Purge will reach on the stage of Finnish National Opera. Opera is based on the novel of Sofi Oksanen and tells about the Estonian history during the time of Soviet occupation through the tragical destinies of women of one family. Opera will be performed in Finnish and Estonian, conductor is Paul Mägi, director Tiina Puumalainen.

In the main roles there are Helena Juntunen or Tove Åman (young Aliide), Johanna Rusanen-Kartano or Heli Veskus (old Aliide), Niina Keitel or Melis Jaatinen (Zara). Among Estonian singers, also Andres Köster – soloist of Estonian National Opera and Koit Soasepp will appear on the stage in the role of Hans.

According to Finnish Nationa Opera, few new operas in Finland have aroused as much interest as Purge, generating much discussion far ahead of its premiere.

After the premiere, opera will be performed once again in April and eight times in May.

Jüri Reinvere (1971) lives and works as a freelance composer in Berlin, he has formerly lived in Poland, Finland and Sweden, being active as a radio journalist, critic and essayist. Reinvere has studied in Tallinn Music High School, Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and Sibelius Academy in Finland. Reinvere uses a lot his own poetry in his music, going out of the genre borders is intrinsic to his music. For his music, Reinvere has achieved the Annual Prize of Cultural Endowment of Estonia (2000, 2010). He is a laureate of international rostrum of composers: Northwest Bow for instrumental ensemble was selected work in the category of composers under 30 years of age in 2000, tape composition Livonian Lament was recommended work in the main category in 2006.
