Mirjam Tally's new work in Stockholm

On March 24, Mirjam Tally’s new work Moonwalker for bass clarinet, drum set and string quintet will be premiered in Studio 2 at the Swedish Radio, Stockholm. The work will be performed by Swedish ensemble Sonanza which celebrates its 30th anniversary with the concert. Additionally, four new works by composers Per Mårtensson, Pär Frid, Lisa Streich and Henrik Strindberg will be premiered at the concert. The conductor is Jan Risberg and the concert will be live broadcasted by Swedish Radio P2.
The work Moonwalker is composed in 2012 as a commission of ensemble Sonanza and ispired by Moon landscape, Michael Jackson’s moonwalk, exploriations of Moon landscapes and for example - taking soil samples of it.

Mirjam Tally (1976) has graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music as a student of Lepo Sumera in 2000 and obtained the master degree in 2003. From 2006, Tally lives on the island of Gotland and is also a member of the Society of Swedish Composers. Her earlier works are mainly for chamber ensembles and electronics. Tally was one of the pioneers to use Estonian folk instrument kannel in art music – peculiarity that widened to other exotic instruments as well. In recent years, importance of orchestral music has increased in her oeuvre. Turbulence (2006) has gained several international recognitions. Density (2010) was premiered as a commissioned work of Swedish Radio in March in Stockholm. Composer with a high international fly recently represented Sweden at the ISCM World Music Days in Zagreb. Tally’s music is full of playing with sounds, where humorous, dramatic and poetic imagery are mixed.
