Anna Klas 100

On January 23, 100 years have passed since the birth of pianist and pedagogue Anna Klas (1912–1999). To commemorate this extraordinary lady in Estonian piano history, concert “Jubilate – Anna Klas 100” will take place at the chamber hall of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre today, at 5 pm. Students of Klas will perform (Ada Kuuseoks, Toivo Peäske, Vladima Jeremjan, Diana Liiv, Marina Kostik, Svetlana Kostik, Nata-Ly Sakkos), a DVD and a book of memories will be presented.

The concert of Estonian National Symphony Orchestra which took place last Friday (January 20) was also dedicated to Anna Klas. His son Eri Klas conducted the performances of works by Johannes Brahms, Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss.

In addition to the work as a pedagogue and a solo pianist, Anna Klas played in a piano duo with Bruno Lukk for more than 30 years. In every season, the duo gave eight to twelve concerts, they performed classical music as well as contemporary music.
