Siim Aimla is the Musician of the Year 2011

Every year, the Estonian National Broadcasting gives the honorary title of Musician of the Year to an Estonian musician, whose creative achievements have been helping to develop musical culture of Estonia and who has worked with Estonian National Broadcasting. As selected by the editors of the Estonian National Broadcasting, the Musician of the Year 2011 is performer, conductor and composer Siim Aimla.

Siim Aimla is a distinguished saxophonist, arranger and teacher, required conductor for big bands and ensembles, known also as a music organizer and leader, and one of the most important developers of jazz music education in Estonia. He conducts several bands and has released two records.

The concert of the Musician of the year takes place on January 8, in Studio I at the Estonian National Broadcasting Building. The music is performed by Siim Aimla and Raivo Tafenau Quintet, the Big Band of the Georg Ots Music School (cond. Siim Aimla), Estonian Television Girls’ Choir (conductor Aarne Saluveer), choir NUKU (conductor Reeda Toots). The concert will be broadcasted by Klassikaraadio and Vikerraadio, the concert is also viewable on the website of Klassikaraadio.
