Tõnu Kõrvits is one one the five composers who was asked to write a piece for European Saxophone Ensemble for their tour launching this week. Three-part piece Landscapes from a Night Train for 12 saxophones is based on keywords “Love” and “Train” given to each composer. Yet with these thematics they wish to perform these pieces in railway stations. Tour will start on October 15 in France, Poitiers and according to initial data, continues in the end of November in Slovenia, Austria, Czech and Hungary. In addition to Kõrvits, also composers like Massimo Botter (Italy), Fekete Gyula (Hungary), Sanne Van Hek (The Netherlands) and Fred Vanhove (Belgium) participate in this project.

European Saxophone Ensemble founded in 2008 consists of twelve young and highly gifted saxophone players from 12 different EU member states. They perform new compositions written for the occasion by leading European composers. This project allows a broad audience to discover the almost incredible richness of the saxophone family. Ensemble has released a CD “reed Action” and toured throughout Europe. Ensmble’s conductor and artistic director is Polish saxophonist and composer Cezariusz Gadzina. Ensemble bears the honourary title of Cultural Ambassador of European Union. The selected musicians for the 2011 edition include also Estonian saxophonist Jandra Puusepp.
