Arvo Pärt Days

Nargenfestival presents three musical events dedicated to Arvo Pärt. On September 4 at 7 pm, conductor Kristjan Järvi with Baltic Youth Philharmonic will give their tour concert in Estonia Concert Hall. Program Baltic Voyage presents 16 short pieces for orchestra written by composers from Baltic Sea countries. From among Arvo Pärt’s oeuvre, Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten will be performed. There is more Estonian music – Eduard Tubin’s Setu Dance from Suite on Estonian Dances has been taken into the program as well.

On September 9 at 7.30 pm, Arvo Pärt’s all four symphonies will be performed by Estonian National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Tõnu Kaljuste in Noblessner Foundry. An overview of composer’s creative styles will be given by Symphony No. 1 “Polyphonic” (1963), Symphony No. 2 (1966), Symphony No. 3 (dedicated to Neeme Järvi, 1971) and Symphony No. 4 “Los Angeles” (dedicated to Mikhail Khodorkovsky, 2008).

At the concert in Tallinn St. John’s Church on September 11 at 6 pm, new versions of Pärt’s sacred works such as Salve Regina, Statuit ei Dominus and Beatus Petronius can be listened from Latvian Radio Choir and Sinfonietta Rīga (conductor Tõnu Kajluste). Also Adam’s Lament commissioned by European culture capitals Tallinn 2011 and Istanbul 2010 will be performed once again.
